OBJECTIVES

  • Existing laundry/office, guest bath, master bedroom and master bath needed updating from 1970’s
  • More functional layout for laundry/office
  • Walk-in shower instead of tub for guest bath
  • Close off and adjust windows in master bedroom, update furniture & window treatments
  • More functional layout for master bath, replace shower & bidet with jet tub/shower
  • Clean lined, contemporary style using warm terracotta tones with accent colors throughout

SOLUTIONS

Flip-flopped locations for desk and washer/dryer. Tucked stacked washer and dryer unit in corner to be out of the main view and to utilize vertical space and gain storage. Placed utility sink on an angle in the corner next to washer/dryer at 36” counter height with cabinetry above and below for storage. Located desk area under window to capture view at 31” high and incorporated file cabinets and pencil drawer for storage. Cabinetry is clean lined in a stained maple with brushed metal hardware. Laminate counters are a textured fiber pattern in terracotta tones with accents of blue, which is picked up in the wall color. Recessed ceiling and under cabinet lighting is used for task areas, with an overhead light for ambient.

Replaced tub/shower unit with custom built-in tiled shower and bench. Incorporated a combination of two different ceramic tiles in varying sizes for interest as well as a decorative border for color accent. Ceramic tile flooring replaced carpet and clean lined stained maple cabinets replaced dark dated ones. Counters are a neutral acrylic, with a stone sink in terracotta tones all accented with a tile backsplash using the same tiles and deco border as the shower. A neutral paint replaces wallpaper and oval mirrors replace square to soften the straight lines of other elements. Incandescent wall sconces replace overhead fluorescent lighting adding a functional, yet decorative element.

Narrowed large view window and omitted small windows on bed wall. Maple wood flooring replaced carpet, which also runs through adjoining hallway and guest bedroom. Added new furniture, bedding and custom window treatments.

Replaced shower and bidet with jet tub/shower unit. Custom tiled surround incorporates two tile sizes of the same colorway along with glass tile accent border for a splash of color. Tile also replaced carpeted flooring and a neutral wall paint replaced gold-brown wallpaper. A new vanity configuration was created to improve functionality and storage. Cabinets are cherry and countertops are quartz with a hint of berry to pick up the tones in the shower accent tile. A custom shower curtain also coordinates with all elements, adding a softness to contrast the hard materials in the space. Crystal wall sconces replaced a hanging fixture for more adequate lighting as well as adding a decorative touch.
